Hola Indio: Cross-border Collaboration is a series organized by Vice Magazine and Indio Beer. Mexican and American artists were paired to create unique visual canvases that were featured at sponsored concerts and exhibitions across the US. I had the pleasure of working with Mexican graphic artist Mr.Kone.

Power Suit is a fictitious agency imagined by Lauren Fisher and Florencio Zavala. The project is a platform for branding and marketing experiments.

It is a popular belief that branding your own company is always the hardest. This experiment releases the pressures of a fixed final identity. The process reveals changes in stylistic and cultural signifiers over time, giving the identity a perpetual sense of nowness.

2008, campaign and performance

Cheer up the loneliest gallery. It needs you. It needs all of us. Nobody wants to be lonely.

On November 15th, under the invitation of Curator and Department Head of Photographs at Los Angeles Country Museum of Art (LACMA): Charlotte Cotton, Machine Project took over LACMA. One of over fifty interventions, experiments, and installations, The Loneliest Gallery experienced some long-deserved TLC. Deep inside the museum’s 19th century French painting hall, the tiny Loneliest Gallery, otherwise known as the Photography Foyer, experienced a day of pampering. Sculptural elements and performances collided through this community-driven campaign of cheer, all within the confines of the four smallest walls in the institution. On this day, The Loneliest Gallery was no longer be out of place, the near-closet sized eyesore blossomed, metaphorically, in a foreshadowing of what is to come for photography at the museum; the story of a small space’s rise to stardom.

This project was co-funded by LACMA’s public programs and the Ralph M Parsons endowment.

Simple Pleasures was a series of cultural investigations into the things we "love, admire, obsess, and collect".

SIMPLE PLEASURES 01 showcased independent publishing and experimentation in zine making from Los Angeles and beyond. We took over the studio parking lot, filling it with music, and setting up tents and tables for over 20 different exhibitors to sell their merchandise. The exhibition was followed by a panel discussion inside Subliminal Projects exploring topics such as the role of accessible art, modern book design, and means of content distribution.

SIMPLE PLEASURES 02: LEAVING RECORDS FOR THE NEW UTOPIA invited local musicians Dntel, Flying Lotus, Ras G, Professor Cantaloupe, Lucky Dragons and Matthewdavid to participate in a utopian sound exhibition. Amidst projections and surrounded by endless looping cassette islands, the entire happening was recorded and re-broadcast at The New Utopia art show on June 27th.

More from the Arkitip website:

Arkitip is a hand numbered 4/color art book. The fact that the magazine publishes site specific work at a lower price point than what hangs on gallery walls makes it available to art collectors of all economic levels. Each issue is like an original piece of art in and of itself. The magazine's founding principles remain as they were when we began:

• Support the arts
• Promote freedom of expression
• Make art affordable and accessible

Arkitip Magazine serves these principles every day by its very existence. What began as a creative project between friends has become a full fledged business and a worldwide source for groundbreaking art and design today.
